About Point Clear Cottages
Point Clear Cottages are owned and operated by Robert Berglin, who is well loved by all his guests. The location is a short five miles south of downtown Fairhope, Alabama on Scenic Highway 98, just 1/2 mile from the Marriot Grand Hotel at Point Clear. A native of Fairhope, Robert is full of helpful information about the area sights, restaurants, and places of interest. He cares about his guests and will go out of his way to see to their needs.
The guest accomodations include the Bayshore Cottage and Pelican's Rest, both private guest quarters located on the beautifully landscaped grounds of Mr. Berglin's Mobile Bay-front property. You are invited to stroll the grounds, walk out on the pier, and enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the bay. Point Clear Cottages are not for everyone; only those who require the very finest in accommodations and want to surround themselves with true luxury and uncommon beauty. You may take a short stroll to the Grand Hotel where you might have wine and crab claws outside by the bay, or a dinner for two and then music and dancing. Lakewood Golf Course is just across the street, if you want to go eighteen holes on a limited membership. For an unusual dining experience, you might try the Washhouse Restaurant, set on the grounds of Punta Clara plantation, or take home some pralines for later. Boutique shopping in Fairhope is truly the finest in the area. Lunch outdoors on Fridays at Sandra's, where shrimp salad is the plat dujour, from shrimp caught fresh that morning is an at fresco delight. Antique shopping abounds not only in Fairhope, but in surrounding towns as well.
If boutique shopping isn't your thing, there is incredible outlet shopping in nearby Foley, another quaint little town, only five miles from the beach. Fine seafood restaurants abound everywhere in the Orange Beach-Gulf Shores area. A trip not to be missed is a trip to Magnolia Springs (twenty minutes away) for lunch or dinner at Jesse's and cocktails at the Cold Hole. Magnolia Springs is the only town in the country where residents still get their mail by water.
In the spring, the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Show is not to be missed, with artists from all over the country displaying their fine art in downtown Fairhope. Over 500 dealers attend this show, and there is music, good food, and activities that go on during the show. The New Year's Eve celebration in Fairhope is unbelievably fun, as well as the Mardi Gras parades. If that's not enough, there are always weekly events such as art gallery walks and wine tastings. Interesting day trips surround you. Mobile, a port city, is full of history and beautiful sites to explore. So is old Pensacola, with it's shops and trendy restaurants. And don't forget the beautiful beaches at Gulf Shores that are only thirty five minutes away.
